Yamazaki
Yamazaki is a prestigious Japanese whisky distillery, established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, and is considered the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Located near Kyoto, Yamazaki benefits from a unique natural environment, with pure water and a temperate climate, which contribute to the distinct character of its whiskies.
Yamazaki whiskies are known for their complexity, elegance, and delicate balance. They often showcase a harmonious blend of fruity, floral, and subtly smoky flavors. The distillery produces both single malts and blends, with expressions aged in a variety of casks, including American oak, Spanish oak (often sherry casks), and Japanese Mizunara oak, which adds distinctive spice and incense-like aromas.
Yamazaki's flagship expressions include the Yamazaki 12-Year-Old, known for its rich notes of honey, dried fruit, and vanilla, and the Yamazaki 18-Year-Old, which is more complex, with deeper flavors of dark chocolate, black cherry, and sherry notes. These whiskies are typically smooth, with a refined mouthfeel and a lingering finish, making them ideal for sipping neat.
Yamazaki has played a major role in establishing Japan as a producer of world-class whisky, and its whiskies are highly sought after, often winning international awards. Their blend of tradition and innovation continues to set the standard for Japanese whisky worldwide.
