White Whiskey
White whiskey, also known as "white dog" or "moonshine," is an unaged or lightly aged whiskey that has not spent significant time in charred oak barrels. As a result, it lacks the rich amber color and deep, complex flavors found in aged whiskeys. Instead, white whiskey is clear and typically retains the raw, grain-forward flavors from the distillation process.
The flavor profile of white whiskey is bold and often includes notes of sweet corn, cereal grains, and a slightly earthy or grassy character, depending on the grain used. It has a more intense alcohol bite compared to aged whiskeys, with alcohol content generally around 40% to 50%.
White whiskey can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but its strong, raw flavor makes it popular for use in cocktails, where its intensity can be balanced with mixers and other ingredients. It offers a glimpse of the whiskey's character before the aging process mellows and deepens the flavors.
