Vermentino
Vermentino is a white grape variety known for producing aromatic and crisp wines. It is widely cultivated in Italy, particularly in the regions of Sardinia, Liguria, and Tuscany, as well as in the southern part of France, known as Rolle. Vermentino is appreciated for its bright acidity, fresh fruit flavors, and floral notes.
In Italy, Vermentino wines are often characterized by their vibrant citrus flavors, including lemon, lime, and grapefruit, along with notes of green apple, pear, and sometimes a hint of almond. The wines typically have a light to medium body and a crisp, refreshing finish, making them well-suited for a variety of seafood dishes and light Mediterranean fare.
The variety also thrives in southern France, where it is known as Rolle. French Vermentino wines share similar characteristics to their Italian counterparts, with bright acidity and a fruity, floral profile. In both Italy and France, Vermentino is valued for its ability to produce wines that are both approachable and versatile, offering a delightful balance of flavor and freshness.
Vermentino's ability to express the terroir of its growing regions, combined with its refreshing qualities, makes it a popular choice for those who enjoy crisp, aromatic white wines.
