Tosba
Tosba is an artisanal mezcal brand rooted in the rich traditions of Oaxaca, Mexico, particularly in the remote Sierra Norte region. Founded by cousins Edgar and Joel Bañuelos, Tosba is dedicated to preserving the ancient craft of mezcal production while supporting the local community and environment. The brand's name, "Tosba," is derived from a Zapotec word meaning "rest," reflecting the brand's commitment to slow, traditional methods and the tranquil nature of its origin.
Tosba produces a range of mezcals, each made from different types of agave, including Espadín, Tobala, and Pechuga. These mezcals are known for their complex and layered flavor profiles, which can include earthy, smoky, and fruity notes, often with a distinctive minerality derived from the region’s unique terroir. The production process is entirely manual, from harvesting the agave to roasting it in earthen pits, fermenting in wooden vats, and distilling in small copper stills.
The alcohol content of Tosba mezcals typically ranges from 45% to 48% ABV, delivering a robust and full-bodied experience. Tosba is best enjoyed neat to appreciate its depth, though it can also be used in cocktails. The brand is particularly noted for its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, working closely with local farmers and craftsmen to ensure that their production methods are environmentally friendly and that the benefits of their work are shared with the community. This dedication to tradition and quality has earned Tosba a respected place among mezcal connoisseurs.
