Still Strength
Still Strength refers to the strength or proof of a spirit directly after it has been distilled, before any dilution or aging processes take place. This term is often used in the context of rum, whiskey, or other spirits where the product is bottled at the same alcohol by volume (ABV) as it was when it came off the still.
Spirits bottled at still strength typically have a higher alcohol content, often exceeding 60% ABV. This allows the drinker to experience the spirit in its most potent and unaltered form, offering a more intense flavor profile. The high proof can showcase the raw characteristics of the spirit, such as the base ingredients and the nuances from the distillation process.
In some cases, still strength spirits are bottled as "cask strength" if they are aged without dilution, capturing both the potency and the flavor complexities developed during maturation. These spirits are appreciated by enthusiasts who prefer a bold, undiluted drinking experience.
