Spain
Spain is renowned for its rich and diverse alcohol and spirits culture, deeply rooted in the country's history, geography, and traditions. The country is one of the world’s leading producers of wine, with regions like Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Priorat famous for their distinctive red wines, particularly those made from the Tempranillo grape. Spain is also known for its sparkling wine, Cava, produced mainly in Catalonia, and its fortified wine, Sherry, which originates from the Jerez region in Andalusia.
In addition to wine, Spain produces a variety of spirits that reflect its regional diversity. Brandy de Jerez, a well-known Spanish brandy, is crafted in the same region as Sherry and is aged using the solera system, giving it a rich and complex flavor. Spain is also home to the popular herbal liqueur, Licor 43, made with 43 different ingredients, including citrus and vanilla.
Gin and tonic, known as "gintonic" in Spain, is a beloved cocktail, often prepared with premium Spanish gins like Gin Mare and served with elaborate garnishes. Spain’s drinking culture is also characterized by the social tradition of tapas, where small dishes are paired with local wines, beers, or spirits, creating a communal and vibrant atmosphere that is central to the Spanish way of life.
