Sambuca
Sambuca is an Italian anise-flavored liqueur, often enjoyed as a digestif. Its distinct flavor comes from star anise, aniseed, or licorice, combined with sugar and a neutral spirit. The most well-known variety is clear sambuca, though there are also black (dark) and red (ruby) versions, each offering a slightly different taste profile.
Traditionally, sambuca is served neat and often with three coffee beans floating on top, symbolizing health, happiness, and prosperity. This presentation is known as "con la mosca," meaning "with the fly." Sambuca can also be enjoyed in cocktails or with water, which turns it a cloudy white, due to the ouzo effect. Its sweet, strong anise flavor makes it a popular choice for after-dinner drinks and a versatile ingredient in various mixed beverages.
