Old Pulteney
Old Pulteney is a Scottish whisky distillery located in the coastal town of Wick, in the far north of Scotland. Established in 1826, it is one of the most northerly distilleries on the Scottish mainland. Often referred to as the "Maritime Malt," Old Pulteney is renowned for its distinctively briny and coastal character, a reflection of its proximity to the sea. This maritime influence is a hallmark of Old Pulteney's whiskies, contributing to their unique flavor profile.
Old Pulteney's whiskies are traditionally matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks, though some expressions are also aged in sherry casks. The result is a range of whiskies that are typically well-balanced, with notes of sea salt, honey, citrus, and a subtle smokiness. The distillery's flagship expression, the Old Pulteney 12 Year Old, is particularly celebrated for its smoothness and complexity. Old Pulteney continues to be a favorite among whisky enthusiasts, appreciated for its rich heritage and the distinctive maritime qualities that set it apart from other single malts.
