Ardbeg — The Peat Monster

Ardbeg is the benchmark for heavily peated whisky — intense smoke, but with surprising complexity underneath: dark chocolate, espresso, anise, and citrus that emerge through the peat. Every expression is an event.

Bowmore — The Heart of Islay

Kilchoman — The Farm Distillery

Kilchoman is Islay's newest distillery (2005) and one of Scotland's only farm distilleries — they grow their own barley. The result is a lighter, fruitier Islay style with accessible peat that's won over converts worldwide.

• Kilchoman Machir Bay — The flagship. Citrus, vanilla, and peat smoke in a fresh, easy-drinking package.
• Kilchoman Sanaig — More sherry influence, richer and darker than Machir Bay. Chocolate, dried fruit, and a smoky finish.
• Kilchoman Loch Gorm 10 Year Old — Entirely sherry cask matured. Dark, rich, and peated — a different side of Kilchoman.
• Kilchoman 16 Year Old — A landmark for the distillery. One of their oldest expressions, showing remarkable maturity and depth.

Bunnahabhain — The Gentle Giant

Bunnahabhain (pronounced "boo-na-HAH-ven") is the outlier — an Islay distillery famous for being mostly unpeated. Rich, nutty, sherry-driven whiskies with only a whisper of smoke. A revelation for anyone who loves complex Scotch but finds heavy peat too intense.

Caol Ila is the largest distillery on Islay and one of the least-known by name — most of its output goes into blends. The single malt is a revelation: lighter than Ardbeg or Laphroaig, with clean, oily smoke, citrus, and a distinctly maritime character.
