Balmenach
Balmenach Distillery is found in Cromdale. The distillery is the last distillery you will encounter as you travel west through the Speyside region. The distillery was founded in 1824 by James McGregor but was said to have been an illicit still well before then. There has not been a new official bottling of Balmenach as when Inver House bought the distillery the old matured stock was not in the deal. The distillery is unique as it also produces Gin.
The distillery bought and added a second hand gin still and started producing Caorunn Gin in 2009. Balmenach is currently owned by Pacific Spirits and Inver House. The distillery has six stills, three wash and three spirit that produce 2,000,000 litres a year. They also produce 15,000 litres of gin a year which only takes 15 days. House Style: Big. Flowery, lightly peaty. Without heavy sherry. Best as an aperitif; with an after-dinner malt.
